Zanzibar

After a climb up Kilimanjaro, there's no place to go but Zanzibar. Zanzibar is the perfect tropical island: pure blu e ocean surrounds sandy beaches; canoes and boats made with hand-tools fish; dolphins leap; the air smells of spices; and a colony of exotic monkeys lives in the center of the island.

Mt. Meru

Mt. Meru is a slightly smaller mountain near Mt. Kilimanjaro, sixty miles off. It makes a good practice climb: it's a three day trip, staying in log cabins on the way up, and provides stunning views. Safari & Masai

The first portion of the trip involved a safari in Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater, two of Tanzania's national parks. Both are filled with animals everywhere.

Nairobi

These photos are from the Giraffe House and the Animal Orphanage, popular tourist sites in Nairobi. Both are, essentially, zoos: places where people can get up front and close to the animals. A chain metal fence feels rather thin when it's a leopard on the other side.
